Have an EP on me. Two new songs and an old one, which will probably be new to most of you. The whole thing is under six minutes long so wont take up much of your time, and if you don’t like it, you can have your money back. Cheers.

There is a song on my album called ‘Fante’s Last Stand’. It was inspired by an article I read on John Fante writing his final book. Somehow this song made its way to Malibu, California, and a couple of weeks ago I received a lovely message from Victoria Fante, daughter of John.
Victoria said she heard the song, and enjoyed it very much. She also said she would be making her first trip to Scotland soon, and would like to take me to lunch in Edinburgh to thank me personally for writing it. Of course I agreed, and at 3pm on Wednesday 25th of August we met.
I found it a little surreal, in a good way, and I didn’t know what to expect, but a warmer lady you could not wish to meet. Over a BLT and coke she told me many tales of her father. About his favourite authors, his ways, encounters with famous fans and the perils of Hollywood book optioning. I left lunch with a gift; a copy of ‘The Brotherhood of the Grape’ with a lovely message inside. My only complaint is that the lunch was all too brief.
It still surprises me how music can travel these days. If this had been the only thing that came of the album, it would have been more than enough. So, if you have just finished your last book and you’re looking for something to read - try ‘Ask the Dust’ or ‘Wait Until Spring Bandini’. You won’t regret it.

I’m guessing most folks have had a listen/gander by now via the post at Song, By Toad, but for those who haven’t…
Don’t You Touch my Fucking Honeytone comes out this Monday. It has four songs, it’s limited, it’s pretty, it’s seven-inch, it’s white and comes complete with artwork/four-panel fold out poster thing designed by Matthew Young (he doesn’t just drink gin all day y’know).
I’m not sure of the technical term for four-panel fold out poster things but I’ll post some photos and more info on where to buy etc on Monday.
Meantime you can listen below and buy direct from Song, By Toad Records.

Well I first recorded a bunch of acoustic songs on a four track to listen back and get a feel for where they should go. I then tried to re-record them with more guitars, vocals, harmonicas, melodicas, percussion… but they didn’t really improve on the rough demos. So here are three of those songs, complete with tape-hiss, scuffs, fumbles and additional vocals on Riverbank from a seagull who was outside my window.

After much faffing, deliberating and city-hopping in recent months I can now give some details on my upcoming releases - in reverse order:
The single got an early airing last night on Fresh Air Radio, though I don’t think it’s possible to listen again. Amazingly the previous EP’s are still getting a fair few downloads. Thanks for that, whoever you are. They may be taken down soon, so if you haven’t got them yet, grab them! Cheers.

Thanks to The List, Peenko and Kowalskiy for including me in their tips for 2011 lists. I’ll do my best folks. We have a nice little mention in in Appetite for Distraction too and do listen to Toadcast #155 to find out what goodies Song, By Toad Records are putting out this year.
Incidentally, my album is finished and will be out later in the year. Cheers.

DISCLAIMER: This song has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas. More a wee acoustic song that doesn’t really fit with anything. Maybe you’ll like it though. It’s free too. Give it to a friend for Christmas and save yourself some money.
Get it HERE. Merry Christmas to you.

If you’d like to hear a demo of a song which may or may not be on my upcoming album, listen to the latest podcast (fishcast) at Song, By Toad. Even if you don’t want to hear the demo, listen anyway.
Also The (fantastic) Son(s) were kind enough to recommend me for the new weekly feature at Favourite Son. I do the recommending next week. Look here.
